OH…MY…GOD! Have you seen this movie? I just watched it last night and cannot get over how delicious it was.
In my past life I would have had all the books read before the first movie came out but for the past year and a half all I have been able to read are snippets of parenting books whilst running after a toddler.
I had read a couple of reviews that highly recommended the movie so I was expecting it to be good but man was it good! I was immediately entranced with the scenery and the acting and was pleasantly surprised what a superb job Kristen Stewart (Bella) and Robert Pattinson (Edward) did.
Last week I had read a brief description of the movie in a magazine and it mentioned that Stephanie Meyer, the book’s author, was Mormon. So I was kind of interested to know what a Mormon was doing writing a book about Vampires. Of course if you are Mormon you can still write whatever you damn please but it just intrigued me is all.
So when the movie started my mind couldn’t help but try and figure out some hidden religious meaning to it. When Edward tells Bella that his family “is different, we learn to control our thirst” it hit me. A 17 year old vampire that refuses to suck the blood of a human, no matter how tempting, is a metaphor for teenagers to remain abstinent from sex! Right? I haven’t read anything to back this up but I am sure it is true. For people that have seen the movie or read the books do you think I’m right?

I’ve seen the movie Twilight and the love story is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in years. They just don’t make many love stories like this in Hollywood anymore.
The Twilight books by Stephanie Meyer have become a publishing phenomenom to rival J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter.
Edward Cullen is the new leading romantic hero – making women and girls of all ages swoon.

Holy, Dracula guys! had no idea Twilight was this good. I knew the boppers loved the movie, but I hadn’t heard anyone over the age of 19 tell me to see it.
I can’t wait to hear what Joe says when I ask him to Netflix it.
PS. Kristen Stewart is a stoner.

Deborah,
Yes it is an amazing love story. The last time I saw one like this was The Notebook.

Stacie,
Is it really??!!! As I was watching the movie I was imagining what it would have been like to read the book and it seemed like it would have been painfully good if you know what I mean.

Ok, apparently I am just not girly enough to hang out with you. I haven’t seen the movies, but I read all 4 books. They were in my house anyway, since my son was reading them. Maybe it wasn’t until the second one when the overwhelming teenage drama and angst made me want to throw up, I don’t remember. Maybe I am just too old to ‘get it’ anymore. But, while I loved the story line, I thought I was going to go into a diabetic coma from the sweetness.
And I didn’t get the whole abstinence of human blood = abstinence of sex. You could be correct, though, I have never been known to delve into too many hidden layers. I read for pleasure not to make more work for myself.

Left,
Maybe the movie is not as “sweet” as the book or maybe I am just a glutton for a good girly love story. And I LOVE to read the hidden meaning into books and movies. That’s what makes them interesting!

I too loved this movie. I read the books first (I was reluctant, but my friend assured me I’d like them) and read all 4 books in 2 weeks. No I don’t have any children. I’m sure that greatly increased my amount of free reading time.
If you liked the movie, definitely read the books. You won’t be disappointed.

Jill, I would put money on the fact that the movie wasn’t as sweet. I would have had to be 8 hours long to encompass all that teen angst!

You were right about that. The stuff that comprises a writer’s work is definitely rooted in his personality, beliefs, and basically all the learnings and principles he has subconsciously acknowledged and experienced in life. His talent lies with presenting these same philosophies or ideologies using a representational setting, character, or plot that his audience can identify with.
If you try reading novels or books written by the same author, you would see a specific pattern, which reveals how he tends to view situations or life per se. Try reading all the Twilight books and you will see for yourself.

I thought the very same thing (referring to the metaphor). I just watched the movie last week and thought it was really good. Rarely does a movie do a book justice, but this did. I read the book exactly a year ago (as in this week last year – the week before I had my son. . .thus why I haven’t read any of the others since, lol)!

Told you it was addictive LOL! Now you’ve got lots of watching to do to get caught up with me hee hee! I’m on the 67th viewing now and gonna watch it again tonight when I go to bed. I seem to sleep so much better with sparkly thoughts of Edward bouncing around my head!
Thanks for the comment on my site!

I agree you with you Jill, though I haven’t seen the movie yet and I’ve only read the book. I was first in line to get my blueray copy which has been sitting here for a whole month! I’m a little scared to watch the movie, not because vampires frighten me but because the book was so engaging and a lovely read that captured my heart. I’m afraid the movie will disappoint me. I’ll get to watching it though soon.
I never thought about the religious aspect of abstaining from sex but very interesting to think about it. Lending his heart to an outsider, different from others of their kind in how they don’t drink blood of humans, keeping to their own family. It’s very interesting to dive in and see beneath the layers.
