Yes it is racist and although I don’t like political correctness I have to say that if such a thing happened in the UK both the cartoonist and the publisher would be quite rightly prosecuted.

Regardless of politics, the recent contrast between the bumbling, incompetent white man who was in the White House compared with the intelligent, articulate black man who is now there renders these kinds of cartoons ludicrous.

I saw this on the news last night. I was shocked. Yup, it’s raciest in my opinion. What was the cartoonist thinking?

I agree. I find it appalling. As if it wasn’t enough that they were portraying Obama as a monkey then the had to add the fact that one of the police officer’s is holding a gun and the monkey has gun shot wounds in his chest.
I believe this cartoonist and the New York Post will get what’s comming to them in the end.
Here is they’re “apology” if you can call it that.

My b/f and I were talking about this yesterday. We’re both pretty liberal when it comes to political satire. HOWEVER, we both agreed the cartoonist is either a.) clueless b.) racist or c.) not funny

How can the cartoonist and/or The Post even claim this joke was meant to be interpreted any other way?

It was all sorts of wrong and The Post, despite it’s love affair with shock journalism, should have known better.
