There’s been a lot of talk lately from the McCain campaign that Obama is going to “Raise your taxes” and “spread the wealth around”. He has even called it another form of welfare.
Now, I don’t care who you vote for (okay that’s a lie because I really want to see a good President in office.) But if you are going to vote for McCain I just want your reasons to be based on facts and not lies or misrepresentation.
McCain may call taking money from the wealthy and giving it to the poor welfare but how is his welfare any different? McCain will take money from the poor and give it to the rich, that is called corporate welfare. It has been going on for a long time in this country, too long. It’s time we get a president that is going to do something about it.
I also wanted to share that I currently recieve e-mails from both Obama and McCain’s campaign. About 99% of the e-mails I get from Obama’s campaign are about OBAMA and what HE is going to do for this country. However, 99% of the e-mails I get from McCain are not about McCain and what he is going to do. I find that scary.
My point for writing this post is to share with you the Obama Tax calculator. All you do is put in your yearly income and it tells you how much money you will get back in taxes with Obama’s plan as compared to McCain’s.

I don’t care who you vote for this coming Tuesday. You are entitled to your own opinion. My real concern is America which is known to be the country of opportunities. I am not a citizen yet and having been here for 3.75 years, I have seen that the major problem lies in the majority of the American people. Most of the people that I work with are not willing to work full time because they think that the government owe them money. Besides, I notice that these people can not even contain their own needs within their own means. And then these people are blaming the government for their fate. To my opinion, the US government is too motherly to all the citizens, ever helpful as we can see in the different government welfare that benefit some that don’t even deserve it. Some of these programs foster laziness among able citizens. My point is, if the mother pampers her child a lot, there is a tendency that this child will go out of his way and starts crying and screaming when he does not get what he wants. This is what is happening now.
I just hope that the majority will be brave enough to face the consequence of their own doing. Lessons are best learned after a very serious mistake is made.

I’m confused. Are you saying that the majority of American people don’t want to work full time??? I don’t need to check the statistics to know this isn’t true.
I am(was) a social worker so I can say that I have worked with people from all walks of life mostly people living in poverty. And yes there have been many books written on the “culture of poverty” and how these people come to be this way. BUT that is not the majority of Americans. I will stand by my opinion that it is wrong to tax the middle class more than the rich in the name of “creating more jobs.” Because it has been proven now that it doesn’t work, and the middle class are suffering for it.
I whole heartedly agree that people should work hard to support themselves and that the government should not take care of them for free. What I am talking about is children who don’t have health insurance or can’t get a good education because of where they live. Or single mothers who work long hours only to barely scrape by. Children growing up in these circumstances does not create opportunity it creates the “culture of poverty” that statistics show is nearly impossible to get out of.
Sure, opportunity has been there for a few but not for the many. If that makes me a communist than so be it.

I received this calculator from the Obama campaign also and put in my numbers. He will save me some money, which is always nice. I had to fight with my dad, though, because Obama was saving me about $800 more dollars a year. (Sometimes my dad makes me crazy). Of course we will save more, we have a dependant AND college expenses.
Anyway, I have always tried to have some empathy for those less fortunate than I (didn’t Jesus teach us that?) but my eyes were opened by Jonothon Kozol’s “Amazing Grace” it is one of those books about the culture of poverty and it is heartbreaking.
We need to do what we can to help those children, the sick and the elderly. If we end up helping one of the “lazies” who refuse to work and just want the government to take care of them so what? Doesn’t that just make us kinder human beings? If we don’t help them, are they going to go to work?
Four days and counting. Obama ‘08

I also read his book “Amazing Grace.” It was a good book but very heartbreaking. I’ve never met anybody else who has read it. Thanks for posting.

I receive email from both campaigns as well (along with some of their supporting organizations). Most of the emails from the republicans are negative things about Obama (the latest is the socialist thing, which seems to be working). I agree that the democrats talk alot about what they want to do. My layperson interpretation is that the republicans don’t want to make too many changes so they can’t really talk about the changes they want to make.
